Description

Founded in 1990, the Newfoundland and Labrador Massage Therapists Association is a non-profit association of professional, practising RMTs. The NLMTA is dedicated to promoting high standards of massage therapy throughout the province.
Members of the NLMTA are required to be active members of the College of Massage Therapists of Newfoundland and Labrador. NLMTA members must follow high standards of practice, maintain a strict code of ethics and are required to participate in continuing education. NLMTA members must also retain an active membership and carry professional liability insurance through the association (Lackner McLennan).
The Act Respecting the Practice of Massage Therapy was proclaimed June 1, 2002, and subsequently a new Massage Therapy Act was proclaimed in December 2005. As a consequence of the Act, all those practising massage therapy in the province are required by law to be registered with the CMTNL. Information on the role of the College may be found by visiting the CMTNL website at www.cmtnl.ca or by phone at (709) 739-7181 / 1-888-739-7181.
The NLMTA executive is elected annually at the AGM which is held in the fall. Various continuing education seminars and workshops are held throughout the year as well.
The NLMTA is a founding member of the Canadian Massage Therapist Alliance.
