Description
California Dietetic Association (CDA) is a not-for-profit voluntary membership association of approximately 6500 Registered Dietitians, Dietetic Technicians, and nutrition students dedicated to healthy lifestyles through food decisions and the delivery of effective food and nutrition services by qualified dietetic professionals and association members. The primary purpose of the CDA is to oversee and protect the regulation and scope of practice of RDs and DTRs in California; support the roles in the delivery of healthcare in California; and to ensure and promote informed food decisions by consumers. Members work in a variety of arenas including hospitals, research facilities, public health and other community agencies, colleges and universities, health and fitness centers, school districts, private practice, corporate America, and with the media.
Comprehensive leadership and direction of the CDA is provided by the ten member Executive Board, made up of elected and ex-officio members. Additional guidance of the affairs of CDA is provided by Councils and Committees lead by Executive Board member-elected Vice Presidents.
Founded in 1924 with sixty-one members, the California Dietetic Association became an affiliate of the national American Dietetic Association in 1927. This relationship remains in existence today. American Dietetic Association members who reside in California comprise the membership of the California Dietetic Association.
