Description

The Modern Language Teachers' Association of Victoria (MLTAV Inc.) is the peak professional association for language teachers, and is the umbrella organisation for approximately twenty Single Language Associations (SLA's) in Victoria.

Mission / Aims

To promote high quality teaching and learning of languages other than English by representing and supporting language teachers.

To strive for the studies of languages to be universally accessible to all students at all levels of learning.

Principal activities

In cooperation with its member associations, MLTAV supports teachers and learners of Languages Other Than English (LOTE) throughout Victoria by providing quality services, including professional development, referral and consultancy. The MLTAV aims to encourage and promote the learning of LOTE as an essential part of the school curriculum.

The MLTAV is an association of LOTE educators in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, from all sectors - government, catholic and independent.

The association also has representation on the Ministerial Advisory Council on Languages Other Than English, English as a Second Language and Multicultural Education (MACLEM), and the Joint Educational Systems and Tertiary Institutions LOTE Committee (JESTILC).
