Description

The New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education is dedicated to supporting bilingual educators in their work and in their professional growth throughout the state of New Mexico.

We recognize the importance of many different kinds of educators in the lives of New Mexico students, parents, extended family members, teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals.

Member benefits

Membership categories are: Active members, Associate members, Honorary members, Institutional members, and Charter Organizations. The benefits, including the right to receive NMABE publications and vote for officers and for other General Membership issues, are the same for each membership category except Institutional and Charter.

a. Active Members include: teacher, college instructor, administrator, consultant, and other.

b. Associate Members include: community person, paraprofessional, retired persons, and full time college student.

c. Honorary Members include all NMABE Hall of Fame Award winners and all former NMABE presidents. Honorary members are not required to submit annual membership applications, or pay dues.

d. Institutional Members have all rights of membership except voting. Schools, libraries, commercial vendors, and governmental entities are encouraged to join NMABE

Mission / Aims

We believe that bilingual education benefits all students, those who are learning English as well as those who are learning other languages.

NMABE embraces the rich cultural and linguistic diversity within our state and promotes its inclusion in the education of all students.

The Purposes of the New Mexico Association for Bilingual Education are:

a. To stimulate professional development

b. To establish national contacts through affiliation with the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE)

c. To provide opportunities to study and discuss issues concerning bilingual education

d. To act as a clearinghouse in circulating information of value and in keeping teachers posted on the latest educational movements and findings

e. To present significant findings through El Noticiero, presentations, and/or our website

f. To address bilingual/multicultural education through ins

Principal activities

The Association promotes educational excellence and equity through activities including advocacy, professional development, materials development, and research.
