Description

The Australian Sign Language Interpreters' Association (ASLIA) is a non-profit body representing the needs and interests of Auslan (Australian Sign Language) interpreters in Australia. Our professional association is comprised of a peak body ASLIA National, with branches in most states and territories.

ASLIA provides a platform for the views of sign language interpreters throughout the nation on a variety of issues, including training, ongoing professional development, recruitment, working conditions, salaries, and the provision of services within the sign language interpreting industry.

Member benefits

Benefits for members include access to support and advice in the previously mentioned areas, and in each state also includes access information to local interpreter newsletters, mailouts, information updates or magazines, as well as the ASLIA National newsletter. In addition, members enjoy the following advantages:

Advice of, and opportunity to attend, regular professional development workshops which will count towards NAATI revalidation criteria;

Discounted rates for ASLIA related professional development activities;

Regular meetings and/or opportunities to network with experienced practitioners and seek advice on problem solving and issues surrounding work practices;

Support from ASLIA representatives when dealing with agencies and their widely varying working conditions and rates of payment;

Education and information on the health and safety issues for sign language interpreters,
