Description
ASTA is the professional memebrship based association for the string and orchestra community. Currently ASTA has more than 11,500 members representing all areas of the profession including Alternative Styles, K-12, Chamber Music, Private Studio, University, and Students at all levels.

Mission / Aims
The American String Teachers Association enriches people's lives by supporting string and orchestra teaching and playing. The goals related to the mission statement are:
Meeting the membership needs through programs, activities, and services;
Developing leadership for the string profession;
Enhancing the image and visibility of string and orchestra teaching and study, promoting the inclusion of string and orchestra programs in schools, advocating for string and orchestra education;
Creating an inclusive community that embraces diversity;
Enhancing the quality of string teaching and performing; and
Developing the financial stability of the association.
Principal activities
Provide music/string education, outreach programs, grants, membership benefits, national conferences, etc.
Training / Licensing / Certification
National conference provides opportunity for members to obtain professional development hours and documentation.
