Description

The Minnesota Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics, is a 501(c)(6), tax-exempt organization, incorporated in the State of Minnesota.
The Minnesota Chapter was founded in 1948 in Duluth, Minnesota, and operated as an unincorporated association until 1986. That year, the Minnesota Chapter incorporated in Minnesota and sought tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) organization. That status was granted in 1987. Further changes occurred in 2004, when the Minnesota Chapter incorporated anew in Minnesota as a 501(c)(6) tax exempt organization. This took effect on July 1, 2004. At the same time, the existing 501(c)(3) was changed to the Minnesota Academy of Pediatrics Foundation.
The membership of the Minnesota Chapter consists of Fellows of the AAP, Candidate Fellows, Pediatric Residents, Medical Students, and Affiliated Members. In 1949, there were 17 members of the state chapter. Since then, membership has grown to over 900 members.
We are part of AAP District VI (Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Canada). The Minnesota Chapter is considered one of the large chapters of the AAP.
