Description
Since the 1950’s, psychologists in Idaho have joined together to pursue common interests. Their association was formalized in 1960 and officers were elected to act on behalf of the Idaho Psychological Association (IPA). In 1963, IPA was successful in motivating the state legislature to enact a psychologist licensure law. Shortly thereafter, IPA held its first “two-day” annual meeting. This was the first convention at which papers were read and symposia held.
Fifty years later, the Idaho Psychological Association (IPA) still represents psychologists in Idaho on matters of interest to the profession. IPA is dedicated to advancing psychology as a professional practice and a scientific endeavor. IPA aims to promote health and human welfare by encouraging the application of psychology in individual and family life, business, law, health care, and education. IPA works to increase public appreciation of psychology, to provide continuing education for psychologists, and to promote high standards of professional and ethical conduct in the field of psychology. IPA continues to organize a two-day annual convention, coordinates yearly regional meetings and has significantly increased its list of membership benefits.
