Description

Founded in 1984, the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS) was created to foster international multidisciplinary communication about clinical, educational and research issues that relate to the subspecialty of psycho-oncology and two primary psychosocial dimensions of cancer:

Response of patients, families and staff to cancer and its treatment at all stages; and

Psychological, social and behavioral factors that influence tumor progression and survival.

Membership is open to individuals with a diversity of clinical and research backgrounds. These include, but are not limited to, physicians, social workers, nurses, psychologists, rehabilitation specialists, epidemiologists, social scientists, and educators. Currently, there are nearly three hundred members from thirty-eight countries.

Mission / Aims

The Mission of IPOS is to be the international multi-disciplinary organization dedicated to fostering the science of psychosocial and behavioral oncology and improving the care of cancer patients and their families throughout the world.

The Vision of IPOS is that all cancer patients and their families throughout the world receive optimal psychosocial care at all stages of disease and survivorship. The vision of IPOS is also to become the preeminent international resource for the dissemination of information and development of interventions that reduce cancers related to lifestyle, behaviors, and optimize care.

Training / Licensing / Certification

Multilingual Core Curriculum in Psycho-Oncology, the annual Psychosocial Academy, and the annual World Congress of Psycho-Oncology.
