Description

The West Virginia Psychological Association (WVPA) has been the principal organization for psychologists in the state of West Virginia since 1950 and functions as the WV state affiliate of the American Psychological Association. WVPA was incoporated in 1954 to promote psychology as a science and as a profession. The Association recruits its members from all branches of psychology across the State of West Virginia. The Association has developed a strong voice in Charleston on issues of practice and regulation, inclusion of mental health services in health care reform and advocacy for services for the mentally ill. WVPA has played a leadership rile in developing coalitions with other professions, agencies and advocates to provide greater coordination on mental health issues.
Through the year, WVPA provides a wide variety of educational offerings, including a three-day Annual Conference. Members enjoy many opportunities for networking and information exchange through Association activities and publications. WVPA encourages the participation of student research at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The goal of increasing public awareness of psychology involves a number of WVPA members. Based on the growing participation of members, WVPA has dedicated itself to being an active voice representing the needs of all psychologists in West Virginia.
